The Visitors book from Barking Signalbox on the London Tilbury and Southend Line.

The Visitors Book from B.R. Barking Signal Box on the
London Tilbury and Southend Line.
Barking Signal Box opened on 27th March 1961 and finally closed
in 1996 during the signalling modernisation program.
This program saw the closure of all the old BR / Railtrack signal
boxes on the LT&S, their areas of control being taken over by the
new computerised Signalling Centre at Upminster. The book is a bit
scruffy, the spine cover has gone and the front cover is present but
has become detached, despite some of the pages being a bit grubby
due to many years of use they are all sound and intact. Despite its
condition it is unique, the only one in existence, and therefore is worthy
of restoration or just keeping as a memento of a bygone era.

The cover is bound in Red Leatherette which has become stained
and lifting away from the board in places. Don’t miss this chance to
own this unique and unusual piece of Railway memorabilia.

Several notable signatures are contained in the book, including:-
Col W.P Reed Min of Transport,
Brig C.F. Lesley Min of Transport
F. Dean London City Mission
Major R. Allison Transportation Centre R.E.
R Kitchenside Trains Illustrated.
Several NUR Sectional Council members
And dozens more, too numerous to list. 29 and a half pages of
signatures. plus 11 Pages of humorous comments at the back

Block Machine Keys

These key  are from a block machine that used to be installed at Upminster East Signal box back in the days of steam trains.

I was told by a signalman from Upminster East who had served there for many years that they used to be able to run trains from the L.T.&S lines across the District (Underground) tracks and onto the the Romford to Upminster branch line.
According to this signalman they were used to unlock the points to enable this movement..
They are all individually numbered

I have not come accross a set of block machine keys like this before but can certainly verify that the originated from the above signal box.

Vintage Railway Parrafin Can

This item comes from the pre- electrification days when trains carried oil lamps.

These were used in shunt yards as well as the old brake vans attached to the rear of a train in which the guard rode as they were almost un-spillable, parrafin being decanted into a smaller can for filling the lamps.

Most engineering or ballast trains would have a break van at each end and as each carried 3 or more oil lamps a good supply of parrafin was essential, especially as the train could be on site from Friday evening to early Monday morning without hardly moving.

This item is marked B.R (M)  (British Rail Midland Region)

It is still in solid condition with only some surface rust on the top as can be seen from the photos, also there are a couple of dents in one side, also shown in the photos.

I would prefer personal collection of this item as it will be a real sod to pack, but will send via courier if requested

Please Take a look at the photos below.................
